Agricultural Scientist


Shri YADAVALLI SURYANARAYANA was born in the year 1956 in a middle class Salivahana family to Shri Malakondaiah and Smt. Nagabhushanamma in Thalamanchi village of Nellore District.. After completing his school and intermediate education in his native district, he had his B.Sc.(Ag), degree from Sri Venkateswara Agricultural college, Tirupathi. There after he completed his post graduation in Agricultural Science and also obtained Ph.D. from Andhra Pradesh Agricultural University, Rajendra Nagar, Hyderabad.

Shri Suryanarayana joined in employment as Research Scientist in the A.P.Agricultural University Research Centre at Maruteru in West Godavari District in the year 1983 and his dedicated hard work in the research for about 12 years resulted in development of high yielding varieties of paddy named as MTU 1001, MTU 1010, MTU 1031, and MTU 1032 which have become popular in Andhra Pradesh and the neighbouring states. MTU 1001 variety, especially has become very popular amongst farmer community with its yield of about 50 bags of paddy per acre. It is estimated that the farming community in Andhra Pradesh is benefited with an annual income of about Rs.200 crores by using MTU 1001 variety of seed for paddy cultivation.

Shri Suryanarayana regularly passes on useful information and appropriate advices to the farmers through the media by way of radio talks, television interviews and contribution of articles in the farm magazines with his rich research experience. He is presently placed as Scientist (Seed Production) in the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University Paddy Research Station at Nellore to carry out research pertaining to development of high yielding new variety of paddy seed suitable for the lands in Nellore and Rayalaseema Districts in the state. Salivahana community feels proud of Shri Suryanarayana and wishes him all success in his efforts to develop more and more high yielding varieties of paddy seed for the benefit of farmers in particular, and the Nation in general.
